My New Toy!

I have been meaning to post this, but I've been so busy playing that I haven't had the time!

My wonderful and thoughtful husband, knowing how much I love books, got me the newest Kindle!  Yes, I am the proud owner of a Kindle 3G / WiFi.  I get any book that I want (if available) in about 10 seconds, for a fraction of the cost of a regular book.  I still love my growing library, but with my Kindle I don't have to wait.  I can sample books, read books, poetry, blogs, magazines, newspapers, etcetera, and if I love what I am reading then I can splurge and buy the hardcover for my library.

This is the best invention ever!  It reads just like a page in print - no glares or glitches.  I've already read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire, by Stieg Larsson, who would have become a favorite had he not died prematurely.  What a great loss to book lovers!  I can't wait to read the end of the trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

I am definitely in love!

Thank you for my wonderful gift.  I was definitely surprised.  Love you, Baby!

Here are some pics of my Kindle hanging out in my library:

Can you spot it?  It's almost like Waldo...

Autumn Morning

Picture from Tricia Jaeger @ Allrecipes.com
Woke up to a chilly morning and I am loving it.  The kids are excited to wear their Fall clothes to school and I'm excited to do some much needed gardening.  The kids are also excited to have me make some hot cocoa.  Yummmm!

About two years ago I stopped buying the hot chocolate packets that we use to love so much because of all the preservatives that they contain, since then I have been on the hunt for a good hot cocoa recipe.  I've been using the one on the side of the Hershey's Cocoa box, but wanted something tastier. In my quest, I found a really good recipe at Allrecipes.com (my favorite website BTW).

When made as is, it's really yummy, but a bit unhealthy, so I only make it this way on Sundays & Holidays. During the week I cut back on the sugar and on the half and half .  Here is the recipe courtesy of Jeanie Bean at Allrecipes.com

Enjoy!

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • 3 1/2 cups milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half cream

Directions

  1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

A Hero For All

What a wonderful inspiration this young man is and what a gift from God. This is precisely why I don't believe in abortion.
